Your Friend in Pennsylvania
(Now in Cocoa Beach)
Steve secondo me dovresti abbandonare il genere musicale che fai attualmente e ritornare alla pop music, penso che il tuo stile renderebbe psichedelico ugualmente la pop music e di maggior successo
this says that i should return to pop music. but what am i doing now please tell me?
Looking fwd to Coral Kingdom. “Another Day” is a great track. Loved the lyrics, and your delivery is spot on.
k/k is sure to be outstanding. You guys get better with each new album.
Speaking of which, The Idyllist gets better with every listen. Been spinning it on repeat, especially during those long flights when you’re floating all night in a disconnected haze. Have to write something about it on my blog.
Now take care of that fucking rib! Unless of course you’ve got one to spare….
would be interested on your take on idyllist , coach!
It’s going to be all of the kids of the Church members forming a band called Chapel.
ha!
That´d be my album of the year, and I mean it.
seems like a busy 2013 Steve…which is always great to hear
the Opera House!!! wow…in the diary now
missed an old pal in Canberra last week but we got to chat last night and she is packing up her ‘creative arty room’ to make way to complete a couple of subjects at uni so that she can teach art…Canberra and the like have slashed and burnt art funding etc…so much for the land of Oz supporting their artists
the good news is…you have finally decided to take my advice…and have an xray!
also, who is that twisted crazy that is making those nasty comments of late?
a song written about you…hope you enjoy it!!!!!
Creep Motel
there’s something wrong
when the song that you sing
is really all about yourself
just to hate for the sake of a thing
you wish that you were someone else
it doesen’t take a crystal ball
to see you’re kind of psycho annd beyond
your evolution’s back to a crawl
you mock the meat you’re feeding on
save your bullshit
you know the smell
i know the devil has
reserved your place in hell
it’s time to check in at the Creep Motel etc etc
(from the new Steve Lukather Transition CD)
will one day get around to catching up on your new CD Steve
in the meantime Steve, take care and best wishes…and so say all of us!!!! xox
oooh the creep motel hallelujah narelle!
Wow, I hope it’s you and Greg Dulli, two of my three all-time favorite songwriters (the other being Adam Franklin), getting together for an incredible collaboration. I was actually shaking a little last year when I read about the possibility, as it always seemed to me over the 20 years that I’ve immersed myself in the music of Kilbey and Dulli that you both appealed to completely different aspects of my personality. You’re like two pure elements that were never meant to be mixed, and the consequences of doing so are sure to be provocative, profound, and explosive.
I’m scared. I’m anxious. But I can’t wait!
lets hope he makes it then!
Great about the orchestra.
What did you do to your rib Steve? absent healing rays xx
Inspiration always love cAth
i hurt my rib in the ocean cath. thanks for healing rays
Ouch.
You weren’t trying to take on that big swell last week were you?
close fitzy. a few weeks back i had a swim next to pool and a wave crashed me into staircase. the fucking rib hasnt healed yet and i cant swim or do yoga n i’m going nuts
DAMN!
Natalie is always shocked when she sees ppl out there swimming off those rocks.
I keep it to myself that I used to do it myself.
We will keep that our little secret.
yeah just you n me
and now the 1000 people who read my blog every day
Exciting times for you sk, can’t wait for all of it, especially the solo show, that’ll be a show not to be missed!
It’ll make a nice change to look in the mailbox and find something worthwhile in there, thanks in advance sk
Keep up the good, no great, work! xxx
should be there soon #1 fan
oh, the mailman just zoomed by on his scooter, no knock at the door
maybe tomorrow…..
slow down for a few days and take stock of your health.
i can’t squeeze that bonkers guitar solo into one of yer songs if you can’t actually sing!
i cant slow down. no brakes!
A live CD/DVD of the Sk concert with Orchestra would be idyllic. I’m Shocked MACCA has never done that in light of his great songs that feature strings.
I hope Mr Dulli will arrive indeed, when I saw your facebook post about Grant today I said to myself. If Steve and Greg do an album together I hope it is like these two Jack Frost albums, both different from each other yet very consistent, excellent albums. Anyway glad to hear you are so busy and looking forward to these upcoming sessions.
I’ve been listening to Jack Frost lately as well; both albums are positively sublime. Steve, as a brilliant collaborator yourself (Hex/MK), and as someone who apparently appreciates a good melding of mutual talent (Gutter Twins), I’m wondering if you ever heard Magnetic Morning, the project by Adam Franklin and Sam Figarino from Interpol? Their album “AM” was stunningly beautiful, I thought, and was the best thing I’d heard in years. I saw your show with Adam in Boston, so I know you know him, just wondered if you’d heard this one.
no i aint heard that. but i will check it out!
All good, Kilb. Love ya….surely u can float in warm water somewhere…? to heal rib…also, so much going on, maybe writing a list 4 each day could help…?! (If u need to…i sometimes do this if needed…)
White pastel pencil and the art it produces > I wanted to say thank you once again for creating the special painting for me and agreeing to the subject commission. Everyone who has seen it is knocked out by the SK interpretation and i think i have got a treasure to behold. Love and respect Geoff Starkey
oh geoff. it was an absolute pleasure!
there are other collaborative possibilities coming to oz in the near future.
there’s neil young ( who i’m going to see..yippee)and paul simon.
but my smokie is cliff richard ! ?
waddaya say to that steve?
keep it clean now.
query:if you have no brakes and painful ribs would you pass a roadworthy ?
i have no breaks! i am road-worthy!
Dear Steve, received the cd which I have been listening to this evening. Thank you! Very enjoyable…a little review from my point of view:
Opening songs tantalise and fascinate with their novelty. Each seems to stand alone (outstanding). Then I find myself more immersed in Aero-Space which nestles easily with the following two songs… they seem to merge into eachother, more like different movements of the same work to me.I think they’d soound great live too. Swift 1 then makes a good contrast, and the next two again contrasting differently. The last four songs taper off the album well, feeling more night time dreamy than day dreamy, drifting in and out of fantasy land with Mist Your Opportunity and sliding into a sleepy exotic place with the final, The Idyllist. Thanks for the lovingness with which you made the album. A good looking package! Love, Kohl
kohl. im so glad you dig it! thanks for revue!
Happy BirthDay to our Sweet Kristina !!!
02/14/2008 !!! Valentine’s Day gift made from Love !!!

with ‘super’ love that lasts forever…
Mom n Dad !!!
(Darrin and Laura Kelly)
Dulli + Kilbey = Dullby? On second thought, better not. I can see some nasty reviewers having a field day with that one!
ulp….cringe
Could be Kilbulli.
hmm…maybe not.
Probably best to see how making the music goes and then work on a name.
If your collaboration is going to be with Greg Dulli, well shit! That is going to be so epic that a section of the Universe is going to collapse on itself. Two great poet/songwriters on different ends of the love spectrum, you the angel of romantic love and Dulli the devil of gritty one night stands and mind fucks. Really, I do love the man. I’m so excited and I will anxiously await word on progress. I will also pray for the souls unfortunate enough to live in the part of the Universe that will collapse.
universe might start collapsing next tuesday morning maria!
no couldn’t think of a better whey to go!
Got my cd and mini poster, yay! thank you, listened to it today and it gets the big thumbs up! Like others have said, it takes you from one mood to another, each song so unique….really love One Thing Before I Go, Can’t Believe You, Oh No Baby and my favourite Shot Through With Change. Your instrumentals are always awesome, love those too!
It was definitely worth the wait, well done sk!
xxxAmanda
good onya number one. what does prince tim think?
I usually listen to my music when I’m alone (no interuptions or comments!)so he hasnt heard it yet…I’m sure he’d give it 2 thumbs up sk
The Idyllist has landed, in it’s shiny jewel case. It will be getting a thrashing this weekend!!!!!!!!!!
excellent. a review please!
Definitely. You gotta give me the weekend though. Need to listen more.
Idyllist: like an exotic dish from the Ottoman Empire…there are spices from the orient and dates and berries and tamarinds infused with muscat and tokay…all stirred and simmered by the hand of the wizard sk in his silken robes of many colours and shades. Scents of jasmine and clove and vanilla bean and orange oil waft around you as you partake of its delights. Good one sk!
you should have been a music reviewer . love the exotic tastes comparison. thank you sir!
The Idyllist: track 11: Shot Through with Change: love the tropical thunderstorm orchestral crash refrain in this….goosebumps on back of neck stuff!
Amazing how many different rock music genres and styles you cover on The Idyllist Steve…it’s like a 16 song walk through the history of Rock…
…..”I ain’t no saint”….hmmm…..
Lovin’ The Idyllist…like all high quality music is gets better with every listen!
thank you chris!
Dulli would be cool!
BTW, I know you boys have been busy, but I can’t believe no Church album in almost 4 years!
Was Untitled #23 a benediction, the final hymn, or will there be another service?
final him
oh no!!
Funny, but so very very sad.
I sure hope the doors stay unlocked!
Just had my thirtieth listen to ‘Shot Through with Change’…this track is representative of the musical genius that is/was The Church: an epic baroque tapestry…a rock concerto that illustrates beautifully Steve’s musical as well as production genius. There is light and shade, reflection and celebration, psychedelica and thumping tympani rock. But what enriches the whole track for me is the spiritual maturity so evident in Steve’s lyrics…this is why his music is so good on so many levels – because it HAS so many levels and appeals to so many aspects of our humanness: our soul, our mind, our heart and our body’s love of the intense beauty of sound at its richest and best…sound that we hear with our ears but also feel in our bodies…it is for me the music of heaven….The Idyllist….currently on high rotation at my house and in my car….
yeah!
Track 7 Aero-Space: Classic fist-in-air fucking brilliant rock & roll! Hand me that air guitar! Get Rocked!
Track 10 Swift 1: Classy psychedelic rock track pulsing with mystery, and rich in sighing searing guitar work…all exotic incense, paisley shirts and cool haircuts…ahh…the memories!
Love the ominous crunching grunging bass work in Swift 1…
Remember those times when you would wait for the new vinyl album from your fav rock singer or band to arrive in your music store? You’d bring it home from the store and carefuly slide the disk out of the sleeve with a sense of anticipation at the sonic joy you were about to imbibe. You’d lie down on the floor of your bedroom…close the door so that those old fogies wouldn’t interrupt your rock worship time…and wait. And then as you listened intently and the music entered your veins, it would dawn on you…this is a new chapter in the rock journey and I am part of it. As you listened a new world would open up, or at least a new corner of this world. Your heart raced. As the collection of songs built you would stand up and grab that air guitar and raise the chalice of rock in a salute to the sky and the rock gods. You were there…transported…transcending the mundanity of the 70′s or 80′s world around you….that’s how I felt listening to this new album The idyllist by Steve this weekend! Get Rocked!
thanks man. i’m glad you like it that much. it means a lot!
I mean it…I’ve had the best sonic weekend in years…I’m on a natural high…keep making the music Steve…keep doing the magic…keep listening to the Muse…we all need your gifts so bad!
well ok. i’ll keep on keepin’ on!
Thank you for the poster too, so sweet and kind. A great memento. I saw you are playing in Canberra next month but prob can’t go because it’s on a monday! But are you still able to play/perform despite your sore rib? And will you still perform Van Park in Melbourne? Can you tell us where you’re playing with the orchestra and when we can book? Thanks! I know that’s asking a lot. Sorry!
canberra is a monday is it? van park inmelbourne yes mid march bad rib or no. orchestra in canberra a little. big orchestra show in sept.
The link I saw re the canberra gig had a heading mon 11/3 and then further down, a blurb about the rock music: http://www.canberra100.com.au/programs/the-big-birthday-weekend/
that’s the spirit sk, a true-blue battler!
please look after yourself if your rib’s hurting you…..if you don’t look after you ain’t nobody else gonna do it….
got my cd and poster on Friday, hot fekkin’ diggidy dog it was like Christmas….waiting for a time when everyone’s not at me about stuff to have a listen…..
damn you’re good
love always…..
Just drove down the coast highway with the volume cranked and Aero Space coming through the speakers…absolutely luvin the ‘fist-in-the-air phat bass drum fuck yeah!’ rock of this track….it’s like AC/DC & Zeppelin & the Stones & Sabbath massaged by the psychedelic magical fingers of sk…up there with Thunderstruck, God of Thunder, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and the rest! Get Rocked!
i too have the passion for that song chris! totally rocking… best ever cranked up to 11… this one is just as amazing… thank you sk xx
