Steve, I´ve just read that article from http://www.smh.com.au, I think is one of the bravest statements you´ve lately made. I couldnt agree with you more. From my point of view it´s been years since The Church turned into a dry well. I really didnt like “Untitled 23”. I think you were the only member who really believed in that record. Opaque and hasty, MWP and PK were on autopilot, TP drummimg is nonexistent, and when I heard your voice in that album I cant hear the singing but a guy screaming to save the ship. All the weight was on your shoulders, and you were left alone. All my respect and gratitude to the other members but we´re talking about business, commitment, involvement and creativity, and not about fucking poetry or useless goodwills.

In my opinion, you should go your own way. I like your solo and demo and collaborations stuff, and you can do it well on your own. You have the music. Now it´s the time. I wish you the best, and you will have my support.

This is just another opinion from a long time The Church fan. No more no less.

    Stay brave.

    Alex

It´s just an opinion, dont give it much credit. But, on the same basis, I can tell you I´ll defend “Starfish” and “Unearthed” with my fists, if necessary.

    Ride into the sunset!!!

For what it is worth, I agree with Boriah that those were brave words, although I didn’t read your post first hand. If I had, it would have been a post I agreed with. Although the bit about splitting up (which has been said before anyway) doesn’t make me particularly happy. Life goes on however. I can understand your frustration in terms of wanting to live a comfortable life after all your input into culture and the happiness, pleasure and joy which your music brings to others’ personal lives. So in terms of ‘fucking poetry and useless goodwill’, I don’t agree with Boriah. It is that sensitivity which sets you apart imo. I’d hate to see you become too cynical and money focussed which hopefully you would never be. But of course as I said, I would think at your (plural) stage, you’d be entitled to some decent comfort and reward, especially as fathers of children and in order to feel motivated to continue to create. The thought of the Church splitting has always saddened me, you are so good together. Probably too good for your own good. Just guessing, don’t know. I hope you can find more talented people out there in the future to help you along. How I would love to collaborate with lyrics and ideas, possibly singing maybe spoken word, rusty piano. My ‘spanner in the works’ (in the best possible way, I hope) is that I may be teaching again next year – not full time though. Such a tension, needing to create and trying to find time and energy. For whatever that is worth, I wish I could help you, either singular or plural. The Church has been one of the few truly joyous things in this country/the world for the last 30 years. Thank you. And I hope things go well for you personally, that you find freedom within yourself. I think at the foundation that has a lot to do with how things generally go.I know that doesn’t change asswipes in record companies but it can help to put things in perspective imo.

    Deja Vu …

    Once again…

If the Church have any chance of surviving, they need to get in the studio
crank out another masterpiece such as U23 (and yes- it is an amazing album) and
get back on the road to the one mainstay in all this nonsense….the dedicated fans with cash $$$ !!!
I find it appalling in this day and age that the Church ….STILL…cannot be professionally
represented after all the previous fuckn theives and idiots…
The most recent day that I felt clunked in the noodle was during the 30th Anniversary Tour
and the fans were given free Ep Cds and souvenir booklets …I stared at them both and started
to count up the money it cost to create, produce, and distribute the said items and I laughed…

Who throws money away like this ???

Yes, I am very appreciative !!! But for a band that has a
CONTINUOUS LOSS IN EARNINGS , sometimes after every tour…hell…its not even funny anymore….
….it wasn’t even funny in the first place !!! Firing Second Motion and all these other quick hasty
decisions will further demonstrate that the Church does not have proper management, AGAIN !!!

How much money was lost with those ‘giveaways’ ???

How much potential earnings have been lost by delaying the Sydney DVD ???

How much will they lose on this upcoming tour ???

Is it time to call the ‘quits’ to the greatest RnR band ever ???

    No !!!

Stop surrounding yourselves with ‘friends and family’ as their mgmt and staff !!!

They , NONE OF THEM !!! , HAD OR HAVE THE CREDENTIALS !!!

The saddest part of all is that your dedicated fan base is prevalent to all this information
and all we can do is wait for the next substantial product to purchase or invest in…

And NOTHING has come our way in years !!!

It’s all very sad, its DejaVu all over again …

    Good Luck !!!

But be VERY careful making haste and emotional driven decisions…
They most often end in calamity…

    A saddened,
    Daz

Hi sk, thanks for posting that “behind the scenes” vid of your exhibition, well done and looks like you sold quite a few. I’ll get you to paint something for me one day, a scene from my holiday in Greece, just gotta save the dosh first 🙂
Looking forward to your mythology talk’n’music at the Arts Centre next Saturday, counting down the days and minutes!!
    lotsa love Amanda
@Boriah – I dont understand you, fair enough you didn’t like U23, but to write to sk and tell him that MWP and PK were on “autopilot” and Tims drumming was “nonexistent”, and worst of all to tell him that he “was screaming to save the ship”, is the most arrogant and offensive comment you’ve made so far (a change from your perverted, sexist and insulting comments). Have an other listen to the record, or go see the band live -yes, the four of them playing together and creating brilliant music. From what I gather, you should really just stick to AC/DC or KISS, who play bullshit 3 chords and pounding drums and sing?, no scream, lyrics referring to sex, drugs and rock’n’roll…more down your alley, not opaque or hasty at all. Just my opinion, as you say.

AC/DC and KISS playing “bullshit 3 chords and pounding drums and sing”???Talking about arrogance, uh, baby? Pfff, I can see you´re a complete musical ignoramus. Go back to school sweetheart. I recommend you to start with classic Zeppelin, Purple, Queen, etc and as for AC/DC: “Powerage”, “If you want blood (you got it)”, “Highway to hell” and (of course) “Back in black” are MANDATORY in your initial steps. Only then you could come back into the arena. Next lesson: essential KISS albums.

      With all my love.

A woman or man are entitled to his/her opinions…that is always agreed
      upon ….right ???
I love U23 and I discuss it with Alex often….
But I don’t see where crossing over into character assassination
and dragging a fellower Blogger across the screen in such a bloody
attempt at…at what ….??? You do understand that he will come
back at you because you fired the first shot….and rightfully so…
Steve may or may not post the following exchanges ….but after
all these years of admiring your contributions….you lynch a guy cuz
he speaks a different mind than you do ??? I hope you can come to ur
senses and say …”sorry Alex” …

Freedom of opinion and expression is our birthright…you rightly
speak and write yours often…can Alex do the same ???

He is an original guy, a grand professor and an excellent musician…

      So is our Steven !!!

boriah seems cool, but I agree with your response re U23 (one of my faves…) thank you princey/amanda. and he forgot to mention Lou Reed… the three cord genius! (gotta love Loubaby!!!) or some others… i.e. Marc Bolan to think of perfection; anyway, (with respect Mr Boriah) as far as Zeppelin… their’s was the only concert of the like I ever walked out on – dang, that sounded horrible (but I wasn’t drunk at it either). AND ACDC opened for them – then I think it was Aerosmith next; I stayed for those. ACDC – they were fun to watch and I still have thoughts of those little schoolboy shorts. it’s all rock n roll and I like it… but the Church is best.

    …leaving the Church!

that’s not a possibility; cuz Marty, Tim, and Peter are each their own legends of perfection; and as it is: the band has the two best living guitarists on this planet – and then: that drummer… what can’t he do? together is forever ~~ all for one and one for all ~~ yeah, from a Dumas series… you guys are as much connected (where would you look for your pasts?) as any romantic heroes. (even they took breaks from each other… i heard those breaks came from disgruntlements re mustache wax; can you just imagine what would have been lost for both them and the rest of the universe had they not stuck it out?

Steve, I volunteer to be dictator of The Church. Ha-ha! I would push you further into the Internet – live streaming events for the band from which viewers can purchase downloads of the songs you’re playing from a vendor who doesn’t cheat you. Make a virtual tour of a virtual world. Things like that. Innovative things. Musically the band is still in great creative form and for that reason I think it really must survive. If you had reached this point AND the band was a spent force musically, then that would be a time to pull the plug. A world class band and a super loyal audience – it seems like these are elements that can be arranged to good advantage.

Untitled #23 was like a huge left turn. Not back on to the right road as such but on to a better road. Like coming off the motorway to find that the side road takes you through some lovely parts of the country.
I’ve loved each album you’ve done and would find it hard to berate one. I’ve always adored the holy trilogy, (GAF, Priest and Sometime) as they were the first 3 albums I heard and cemented my love for all things choichy.
However, Untitled #23 was different from them all before. AENT, FY & ULTC, where all richly textured and untimately rewarding for those that played more than the cursory once, but U23 was different. This wasn’t a continuation, but rather part one in the next trilogy.
I’ve always found it hard to put my finger on it. The vocals, the guitars. I really don’t know, but it was the sound of a band who hadn’t given up. That kept evolving. I don’t think this is their time to give up. To give up after a rebirth is the anti thesis to everything that the church have taught me.
Anyway, I usually don’t post more than a couple of words, but after reading Boriah’s opinion on U23 (we’re all entitled to it), I wanted to portray the alternative view.
Hope you can get out of the contract with Second Motion and do what you need to do to survive.
    Good luck Steve.

Hey Steve, saw and read your post before you removed it on facebook. What would it take to have me distribute your records from the US for next to nothing except the costs of actually sending them out to people, etc? Hmmm, just a thought, anything to KEEP you in the BAND! Please don’t go but i hope you guys can work it out in a good way! We want to hear the next Church record!

P.S. Thanks for the Exhibition Video, just what I wanted! Awesome thanks!

an aunt always helped when others more passive would extole their advices: …young lady, don’t burn your bridges; well after counsel with her, wiser words would follow: she’d make me feel better by agreeing she wouldn’t want to even be on the same street with the party that I’d been told [not to burn bridges with], let alone remain associated with them – why would you want to hang with crooks?; instead, she would smile and ask me if I wanted help blowing the bridge up?! (very much a lady about it though; and very efficient she was). and it does feel better – cuz gosh, a backbone is worth way more than a sick feeling in your gut for the rest of your life.
