My favorite time period!
How I love that song
Just ordered to UK and thought I might add that any purchases from Australia have been inflated last 5 years due to Dollar and Pound currency weakening against Australian Dollar by more than one third( http://uk.advfn.com/p.php?pid=qkchart&symbol=FX%5EGBPAUD)…Aussie traders are not gaining (and probably losing out on exports)….. UK customs seem to have cottoned on and tend to pounce with import tax charge on cds and dvds imported as they often now fall within limits based on UK costs….a little economy with the truth on customs labels doesn’t go amiss !
yep….as revgreene10 says….write fifteen dollars or something like that on the declaration otherwise we brits get clobbered again!
‘coz euro-currencies ‘aint worth shit nomore….and uk customs just love to give us a double-whammy.
onto the actual DVD though, it looks like it’s gonna be pretty essential stuff to say the least.
240mins?….peter jackson, eat your heart out!
SK and the Church are evocative. I do not like GAF. My neighbor is a bona fide Chicago music critic. I gave him the CD and he said it’s supreme. SK has spoiled my ears and whats left of my brain with musical luminosity!!!
I’ve always liked the bits that are left Brien
Dude thats WAY better than the Beatles. Sorry n all but fuck yeah.
“Essence,” what a fantastic song! Those guitar sounds are just SO Church!
Steve, maybe this would be a good time for a critical reappraisal of the GAF album? I seem to recall you’ve commented negatively about the record in the past, but for a lot of us it’s still a favorite after all these years. I know when I want to spin the Church, it’s always one of the first I think about.
My view is that it’s unfortunately wedged between two bona fide classics, so it pales a bit in comparison, a victim of bad timing. But there are many excellent songs on there — “side 2” is particularly strong — and the arrangements and playing are first rate as always. Maybe a track-by-track analysis, some comments about the record’s strengths?
rock on –
yeah ok i agree
Just push the guitars up in the mix a bit more
“hey, Boo-Boo!” (emphasis placed on first Boo)… Yogi. “Yogi!”… Ranger Rick.
Dude! When’s minez copy comin my way? I can’t WAIT, gotta toke it up and watch this stuff (back in early 90’s I had plenty of that toke, but now I don’t have any, bloke, just a memory cloud, because of my current fucking job takes it as a joke to toke), uhhh cough cough puff puff, gotta go with the fluff, under the floor (aka flow), into the mow happenin’ times with Duh Chew’rch (aka The Church)! Man, i’m tellin’ you Stevie, thiss here DVD gonna blow the sky high bye buy! Gonna BURN the RAY out of the BLUE, gonna burn the CD into the DVD too, gonna make your top rip right off, blow your stack, Jack! Those were the daze (days) , for real:
I had my “Best Of” Church tape on the boombox (that I made relentlessly with all the CD’s up until GAF) walkin’ round town trippin’ with friends, introducing them to The Church, man (before there was any ‘Best Of’ albums?! Who needs a best of album now?
If you haven’t heard the never-ending library of SK, MWP, and The Church albums, you haven’t heard the best of any of them yet! Damn, memories indeed! The times when all of us only had fanzines and magazines, translucent dreams, nicotine, acid/pot dreams of the next fix, Afternoon Fix that is, what would come next….Priest=Aura
Even grew that beard you had Stevemeister, yes indeed. You were so cool and you still are! Yes indeed.
Gotta say, City, Monday Morning, Laughing, and Grind are some of my favorite cuts of all time from GAF, especially “Laughing”! Can I ask where you came up with that one? Love it regardless where it came from or what it means to you…
what is the name of the song playing during the clip? Steve solo work or the Church and what album?
essence from GAF
I have GAF, but totally forgot about the song and how great it is! I figured it out after going through my Church collection, nice to hear that song again ! Ive been a Church fan from the very beginning, Im planning on purchasing the DVD. I saw the Church perform in Milwaukee Wi. at Shank Hall in 2009 on the ” So Love May Find Us Tour”. Bought #23 on vinyl at the show. Great album from beginning to end. Not many albums these days you can say that about , but this one is one of them, a classic. Great show, and setlist. Afterwards the band all were very gracious, and you all signed my vinyl copy of the Churchs very first album that I purchased in the early 80’s. The Unguarded Moment will always be one of my personal favorites, a perfectly written song. Also this album in my opinion is one of the best albums of the 80’s. Hope the Church carries on, writing new material, and hope to see you again sometime in the future in Wisconsin!
