backstage san från 15

touring is weird weird weird

i am drawn into its whorl into its whirl

and into its world

we travel  on the bus sleep in the noisy darkness of bunks

suddenly a lovely hotel room full of sunlight and white sheets

then the gig which is a lifeless cave by day

backstage its dark and quiet

i slip into reveries induced by sleepiness

as i sit here and type

tonight will unleash our music

for a short time i will be invulnerable to age or tiredness

the zeitgeist will have no hooks in me

bass guitar with stored energy will release as curtain goes up

words and notes will travel  and merge

spirit of rocknroll etc

and then

and then what..?

Americans touring overseas have at least an ethnic coffee/meal/site-see – all so exciting to be in another country for us. A young friend of mine is on his second overseas tour with his band. He had got very lonely first time round after a month or two. But now he has some new mates to see along the way and has become an excellent photographer. You’re used to the states, of course. But must have friends all along the way too.

We’ll wish the snow to stay away for your drive across, next storm for Chicago is Sat/Sun. We had 5 more inches last night and it’s 14 degrees :)I know someone who has just knitted a pair of skull motif black and white mittens …I’ll check if she’s found someone yet who could use them 🙂

Know that we are all excited that you are here.

Performance is certainly its own reward wrapped in an ever changing veil of mystery and momentum. And then you do it all over again and again and again because there is an ember that burns deep inside that is inextinguishable. Always come back for more. Spirit of rock n roll for sure! Atlanta awaits patiently…

then if time allows, breath in the scent of a lovely REd Wood Forest, where the earth will hold your mortal frame greeting you as a kind familiar from the forest of dreams?

Looking forward to the Rough Trade show. Bringing a relative Church newbie to the show and he’s quite excited to see the show and hear the tunes and get taken away to a special place.

I have no doubt it will be a great show.

Your tour looks fast and with crowded/ close dates this time around. Hope you get to enjoy the journey, experience some enlightening vibes and share some great conversations with old friends. Try to pop out and say hi to your old friend when you are in DC. Shaman Ron

Flying to Philly show from Oregon for round two, bringing my sister this time who has never seen a Church show. So glad I get to experience the magic twice this tour!

SK you do weird well. I hate the Zeitgeist too. The Church ALWAYS rock. And what has happened to us all, its funny & cute haha, glad I got the Royal Purple. X

can’t imagine it i have been a teacher can never really refer back to heavy days of teaching back in 80’s or punk days, although much has changed no longer is there smoke in the staff room or alcohol allowed on the premise- would have loved to be a pop star very envious

Hello Steve. Thank you for the wonderful show the other night at the Chapel, San Francisco. I was very surprised to hear you open with “Is This Where You Live”. It was indeed a rare treat. Speaking of treats, how were the Milky Bars?

    Safe and happy travels,
