Glad to hear it’s going well, Steve.

I received my copy of El Momento Siguente yesterday from the Church Merch. Some very interesting versions of the classic choons. I particularly like the swing you gave to Reptile and the psychedelia of Tantalized.

Looking forward to your next communique.

fantastic its all going well for the band, i went to see roger waters show yesterday, was kinda intresting, ‘set the controls’ was a highlight as was ‘dark side’ preformed in its entirety, but i’d have to say, it was no where near as good as seeing the church play. it was quite a political show, lots of anti george bush visuals and an inflateable pig with ‘free david hicks’ sprayed onto its side.
anyway i’m looking forwards to seeing ya in the hunter

    Killer and Co.,
Glad the winery was nice, and the shows went well. God, that Indian food sounds great!! That is exactly what I am in the mood for. Except, here in the states I cannot find a good Balti to save my life. Does anyone know if that is chiefly a British Indian thing?? It is weird, all these “Indian” restaurants, but none serve a real Balti, well, some do, but they are hard to find and most only have “buffet” style dinners…which are good too I guess. Damn, I think I’m hungry!! And who was it that mentioned fish and chips??? AAARRGGGHHH!!! I don’t think my newly instilled low-cholestrol diet will allow such delicacies, so…do enjoy that for me too, ok??

So did ya get to the Einstein’s Apple farm?? (In case you are wondering what the hell I am talking about, I am referencing a fine little Australian feature film called…”Young Einstein” starring one Yahoo Serious) Yes, I loved that movie…about as stupid funny as you can get, but very Australian. Did anyone else catch it?? Sorry, but whenever I hear of Tasmania, I always think of that film, as opposed to the “Tasmanian Devil”…who is also really funny I think.

    Well, CHEERS, y’all…

I’m from Birmingham, England. Birmingham is the birthplace of the balti. It’s now spread all over the UK, but the real, traditional balti is only to be had in a small triangle in Birmingham. I still venture for one a few times a year. Some real veggie delights and Nan breads nearly the size of the table.
I’m glad the tour’s going well SK & interesting news on Mim.
It’s been a great couple of weeks. EMS on it’s way from Church Merch, as well as tickets for Gods own finest in London on April 30th.
    Go get ’em killer.

Mrs Dave M wanted to say thanks to Cecilia and Isolde!
The great news is an extra date on Saturday 28 April has now been set for Brighton, which is a seaside town on the south coast of England. So, I’m going to treat her to the world’s greatest band and a stop over by the sea. Even better for me I get to see The Church twice in 3 days, with my birthday sandwiched in-between.
    Thank-you Steve!!

    Hiya Dave M.-
HA! Brum is exactly the place where I had the best (and my first)Balti!!! (it was love at first bite) I was there a few years a go, as that is where my EX wife is from. Then we stayed in Brighton for a while as she preferred the seaside, as did I. Anyway, I think I had the absolute BEST Indian food (and many, many Balti) in Birmingham! I will never forget it. Too bad my reasons for being there in the first place all blew up! Actually, I am much better off now with my lovely NEW wife!! Let’s just say it is like night and day. Anyway, back to the food, YESS, I loved all those strange little Indian restaurants…oh…and the “Chippies” Holy Cow, how I used to frequent those as well. Nothing like a good pub, then the chippy…especially when you are by the sea, there is just nothing like it! Anyway, thanks for making that clear, and for the memories. I didn’t know that it was actually invented there.

Oh, so are you heading to Amstel??? I am seriously wanting to, if I can scrape up the cash. Kind of in a “skint moment” right now, but who knows? I already have the “OK” from the Mrs!! 🙂 (I really am blessed on how cool she is with everything) We wanted to both go sometime later in the year, but when I found out about April…well, it gets a fella thinkin’! Now the plan is to get down to NZ and Oz next year. So, yeah, lots o’plans, not enough dosh!! Such is life sometimes, right?

Anyway, thanks for the message. Steve, thanks…for everything of course.
    Cheers everyone!
    BV

Steath- come vist me if ya get to En-Zd I will introduce you to one of the biggest Cheerch maniac’s there is..the famous (PL) of Onehunga Auckland…just beware he will sing ya Old Flame more than once.
Sk most impressed, ya been flying alot and seem to have come too grips, at least. delt with it well.
Whats this tour biz up north again- Is this an annual event now?? no doubt passing over the fair commonweath of New Zeelund…Grr.
Nevertheless…If TP canne sway ya I deff can’t.. As a strong music nation I resent the endless opportunities of a gig here, but thats why to be a Crunrch fan ya need a bit a brass in pocket, or at least a very addaptible diary.
(sulk) We as long as if ya play to thousands like in Budapest..YOU TAPE IT. (dIGI-BETA) MULTI-CAM. one on a mini-gib stedicam pulling away from the crowd and catching all the action. And recorded straight from the mixing desk..TP can play with the post production and the world can buy the dvd live in concert…then where ever we are we can have the Ceerch. Can’t play the Enmore one too much as the sound frustrates me… funny that.(I am such a drama queen eh!)

Glad ya had a gd gig in Hob-art.

    Hi Matt-
Hey, thanks a lot, mate! If we do head down that way, it would be my absolute pleasure to say “hey” in person! We have some friends that are originally from the UK that now live down near Te Anau (way down south I guess)near a really big Natl Park (Fiordland). So I imagine that would be a real treat to just cruise around NZ, then “hop” on over to Oz. Same goes for you, if you ever make it over to the states, drop on in to Chicago for a visit.

Hi Cee! Thanks for the hugs! Needed that today 🙂

Yeah, Dave, I understand about the budget, but how cool is that…you still get to check ’em out …and in good old Brighton, no less. That is a great town! Probably even be just as cool as “Hamsterland”!!

Cheers to all of you fine-feathered friends! Time to hit the sack, fookin’ knackered.
    Thanks again, Steve-o!

    sk,

hmm, where to begin – perhaps back to yesterday at sandalford winery… wow. wierd day, intense heat, lightning, rain. and you guys – what a spin, having not seen you for ?? 10 yrs maybe. prob less, but a long time. And the funny thing was that just before you came on my friend & i stumbled across a couple of guys having a smoke – i rarely indulge these days, but had a wee puff, just as well it was wee as it knocked me into another dimension… which put me in fine form for listening to a bit of cruhch!! i had to wonder about that happening – i felt like perhaps you had had some subliminal influence that had led me to that place. ha. course not, but the timing was perfect.

and oddly i think i had wanted you guys to be bad (so i wouldn’t feel i’ve been missing out!). but no chance of that.

only downer on last nite was that there were no taxis & we were stranded out there for a long long time… about to get a lift with the local boyz in blue (paddy wagon style) when a cab finally rocked up…

… and got home to our front door destroyed by our dog, who obviously didn’t enjoy the storm as much as we did.

    eventful day,
but thanks for being the highlight & being a cool breeze in the sweltering heat.

It was 41.6 degrees yesterday (about 107F) at 5pm when the church hit the stage so I think sk is still recovering! The band were looking into the sun (and all except Tim wearing rock star black of course). only marty and tim made it to the post gig meet the fans.

Steve mentioned it was the first time in 27 years in the church that he had actually burnt his fingers on his bass strings they were so hot. but he was in a good mood considering… Cant wait to hear what else he has to say about it

and to top it off, a bizarre electrical storm meant they pulled the plug on the Pretenders after only 45 minutes due to the supposed danger of the stage scaffold becoming a giant lightning rod!

to blobshrink I/we reply…. when is the time. never, I say, or is that nevets, I say. but consider this, I strongly suspect, that we are all perfect as we are, as you are, as they art, as art is. then behold, that you are as strong as an old oak tree weathering a storm, or as solid as a breakwater so that no raging sea will beat down your boat, no storm front will topple your bowies, and I am certain, we will be here next year. come on, fellow church goers.. let us brake into him…. or is that hymn. oh drat this language. it seems to me that if we be than to be is what we aught to be. Even Kilbey’s silence is VFM. If only Bono would try it.

again i’ve been listening to ULTC all evening and i don’t understand why no one ever mentions real toggle action. i really love that song (as much as i love day 5, block or never before). on the other hand I still don’t like unified field at all, but i changed my mind on easy. it’s a good one.

Q: why does the cover painting say ‘vishu’ and not ‘vishnu’? just a mistake or is there supposed to be a deeper meaning?

EARTH TO STEVE!! EARTH TO STEVE!! COME BACK, STEVE!!

i know that your absence is probably out of your control right now….but this is what happens when you are not around. the bickering begins, and one of these days it’s going to get out of hand, i fear….

right now i’m in the process of turning over my desk to fashion a bomb fallout shelter out of it in the event that things DO indeed get out of hand….

Be calm now children. I’m sure The Being is safely spaced out on this dramatic plane…earthbound… Living that which is not “blogge-consciousness”. There is more to Earth reality than the pc.

So…ummmmm…what shall we talk about today?

I saw a Sydney Festival screening of the doco that was made about the Leonard Cohen tribute concerts that were put together a couple of years ago. One was staged in Sydney for the 2005 Sydney Festival with Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker and a few others.

Anyone else see the concert or the doco?

I really enjoyed it. Concert footage interspersed with Leonard talking about bits and pieces of his life and writing etc. The only let down was the stage-y bit at the end with U2 who sang with him…it was just ..a bit of a dull anti-climax.

Anyone see Lou Reed’s ‘Berlin’ in Sydders last week?

…about this time last year was the last offical public performance by Grant McLennan at another Sydney Festival gig, ‘Danger in the Past – The Story of the Go-Betweens’.

    …sigh.

I’m gonna make a compilation CD now to cheer myself up.

No one is probably going to read this now (or care), but for the record, my anon comment at 11:41 quoted lines from ‘Chaos’, courtesy of the Fipster.

I just realised though – “Underneath us are the nothings”
I’ve always heard as “Underneath the tsars are nothings”

    Fipster, hello????
