the devil
what does that mean
that his number was 666?
which number?
or is this some complicated bit of cabbala
tossed into revelations for the cognoscenti?
how could olde jehovah let that dude run riot like that?
why not stamp him out bang! like that
im sorry
but when i look at this earth
and its colours and its processes
and its marvels
the biblical stuff just seems……..pathetic
it seems like it was written a long time ago
by some seriously judgemental old israelites
with long beards and a big axe to grind
oh theres some beautiful parts too
and some ludicrous parts indeed
can you imagine a god capable of creating
the forests
the snow
the lakes
the oceans
is gonna help one lil tribe against another
and say things like
i am a jealous god
gee thats sounds like a human talking …
or whoever it was
running round with a bag of a thousand enemy foreskins
oh yeah thats what god wants
of course
and bears savaging the youths
for laughing at elijahs bald head
fuck him if he cant take a joke!
and the devil
oooh im real scared
hes trying to collect our souls
what for?
why would he give a toss?
and we all know how its gonna end
dont we?
it says so in the bible
gods gonna whoop satans ass, right?
well maybe satan dont believe the bible
after all predictions can be wrong, right?
god its all so utterly ludicrous
and so humancentric
all this
so these 2 cats can play a game
collecting our souls
and all the beasts n deserts n jungles n meadows
are all just scenery for the game
like in a train set
and us…
we’re like the shuttlecocks
naughty lil satan tryin to getcha with the badde stuff
self righteous boring olde gee-hovah judging you
yeah sure
yeah sure thats how it is
thats how this she-bang works
all for humans benefit
like if im jehovah
and i can dream up universes
as if im gonna be so hung up
on what a bunch of turkeys do or dont do
down here
or lucifer
ok he broke free
jehovah gave him free will
and he exercised it
sorry j-man
i dont dig yer rules n regulations
me n a bunch of the other groovy angels are splitting
so we can goof off angel fashion
jehovah says get outta here lu
dont ever darken my doorstep again!
lucifer says
we were already leavin’ !
and this incenses jehovah
and the angels with god
and the angels with lucifer
begin pushing each other about
and soon you got a war in heaven

now i cant believe that olde jehovah
who after all
made all those angels
i cant believe he just dont wade in
and end it
i mean
if he aint the decider
i dunno who is
yet although he wins
there seems to be a bit of a struggle
and what about those other angels that backed the wrong side
they must feel silly sitting in hell
when they coulda had heaven
anyway jehovahs actual lack of omnipotence
i mean everythings always going wrong for him aint it?
adam eating apples
whispering serpents
cain kills his little bro
the tower of babel
david goes bad
then king solly even
its just one thing after another
loads of misogynistic twaddle and unlikely carryings on
quite frankly the “good” guys come off as a bunch
of imperialistic marauding butchering villains
just ask the fucking canaanites
and the big J
he floods the world
he nukes sodom n gomorra
but lets las vegas go….
he just aint coming off as omnipotent to me
nor particularly kind or even “good”
why should one bunch be his “chosen people”
allowed to do whatever they liked to the “enemies”
eg the ones whose land they were invading
justifying the whole thing
with a little rationale that it was ok
cos their god said it was
and whats all this gotta do with me?
why was i raised in a society
where people waved this silly superstitious
n largely tedious book around
saying it was the “good’ book
good for who?
not the canaanites or the cats in jericho
or a bunch of others supposedly massacred in it
im sorry i just aint identifying with the israelites here
i mean their fight aint my fight
and their tent god aint my god
and then a problem enters the bible
into this hodgepodge of law and war and downright plagiarism…
come on christians
the flood and garden of eden are in gilgamesh
thousand years earlier
dont it make ya wonder?
anyway into this largely silly and (to me) irrelevant book
comes something worthwhile
well thats not strictly true either
they started a second book for this guy
the old n new testas are only joined cos some cat said to do it
anyway a new book
a new leaf turned over
and heres a guy spouting some beautiful stuff
no more rape n pillage
no more take his donkey and kick his ass
no more trumpets blowing down walls
wait for it..
hey people
try being nice…
there ya go
revolutionary stuff
after all that slaughter n struggle n destruction
we have this enigmatic cat
and hes not that different to buddha really
and who knows if he ever heard buddhas teachings
the gist is the same
dont persecute others
get yer own trip together
people look after each other
live yer lives wisely
love everybody as much as ya can
forgive everybody as much as ya can
boy its pretty simple really
its the way these guys put things
they invented these little sutras n parables
so you could understand
where they were coming from
i dig jesus n his ideas
whoever he was
whoever said that stuff
it didnt say itself….
he was a genius of love
a soothing healing charismatic breath of fresh air
the rest of it
the devil
the rules n regs
the justification for invasion n atrocities
dont interest me
666 ooohhh
how scary!!!

i think “steven kilbey” was just put here to delude us all, to lure us to the dark side. Look, the mark of the beast is upon him! Burn the infidel, or at least make him really uncomfortable.

Im Right good at holding on.
to all those who ‘like your old stuff better than your new stuff’ read comment 59 in yesteryears post. You People are a bunch of people! I lurve youse All.

THe Night Is Very Soft-what a song full of peeling back and laying it down 100 200 300.

CHeryl Rainbeux Smith would have been proud-the B movie Queen of Cheerleader Classic Camp Film. I love Her til the day crowded House Dies. Theres a Hole in the River where Steve Kilbey’s Addiction to meat Lies. Sister Madley Killed THe Priest who ate her aura. the Division bell rang out for the chaos of swan lake when the opium was running pretty low cause when heyday comes back Neil finn doesn’t want to know!. But we still have to grind, grind it out between the sheets of a beggars banquet even when Lady Day is not going station to station, she’s given up on her coney island dream and settled for some house of the holy in some mansion in the slums in the badlands of every kubrick film she’s ever seen. Although Andy wharhol and Robert Zimmerman still think Ziggy is on their set list they would rather play fire and rain over and over again until the cows come home and we all know that Eugine is there waiting with his axe ready to cut you into little pieces- well one of these days. All he can do know is listen to his own echoes as he sits and whatches emily play for today rather than go out and kill and arab for fun although friday is on his mind he is still caught up in the teenage wildlife of Major tom’s Silver Rocket in his pocket without the sonic youthfullness of Captain Kid and Daniel. I thinks its gonna be a long long time before GAF Is truely recognized as a masterpiece of modern cinema in the fellini scope. Anyhow have a winfield and suck in the Electroshock blues of every sister morphine you ever saw or wild horse you could never catch. THe mint car is there for the comedown as we are all welcome here ever SK and the divine EC was Here without the cream of clapton’s lesser known classic-There’s one in every crowd anyway said the tillerman at teatime. Why can’t we all be like A Lad Insane and just Be my fucking Wife or i will Slap you up in to my arm you bitch that is back. I am still standing though even though i didn’t make the church on time let’s dance to the music that they are playing on the radio anyway and hope that Yer blues will fade away as Mother Superior jumps the Gun of Life and brings it all back home minus the tombstone blues that live down on desolation row. Why can’t we all let it be anyway and have a cigar cause we might go far like the pigs on the wing, although id much rather be one of the dogs, and i think i am gonna kill eye and shoot myself straight out of hell, a firey release from the stars, boy does mars need guitars or was steve right when he got that electric lash from the ladyland down on that road where you live way back in a time when you were mine and I was never blurred by the crusade of monday mornings, lavishing in luxury with my junk and my jewels in my hotel womb- I didn’t think they were invented then.

That hatefull vengefull olde testament god has never seemed remotely divine to me either. I mean what kind of God demands the senceless slaughter of animals and children? .And all that gods choosen people malarky , Is that the height of arrogance or what?.
Jesus didn’t buy into that old testament twaddle either. Many of his stated veiws were directly opposed to it. Who’s idea was it to publish him toghether with all that hate and wrath bollocks anyway?.

I don’t really care to even try to debate anyone on the longstanding orientalism issues as to why persians, muslims, etc. want to eject the jeswits from their ‘homeland’. History says and I think it has a lot to do with Jesus of course. It looks to me like Jesus was an image painted and made up by Christians as the son of god.

Killa, I explained this to my Hindu boyfriend last summer because he didn’t really know what’s going on there. When I mentioned Muslims…he suddenly understood!!

is it true that in the US there’s a 12-song publishing cap on an album – you can have 40 songs on it but you’re only gonna get paid for 12 of em.
Does it work like this in Oz?
If so, have you been able to pick WHICH 12 songs you can have the publishing from?
Cos if it’s just been assigned at random and the 12 happen to be the early ones that you signed away yer royalties for, then I ain’t buying it or I’ll just be funding the thieving fuckers that ripped you off back in the day.

The Old Testament according to SK. You summed up quite nicely….of course you’re gonna burn in hell for it. Don’t you know not to mess with a mean old bastard god-thing who doesn’t really like cheeky…or thinking…humans? 😉

I always thought the “Don’t you dare look at any other gods, I’m the only god here!” bit seemed mighty damned human myself. Not only human, but whiny, insecurely human too. Of course there’s still some of that in the new testament too.

The biggest problem with the new testament is although it depicts a nicer god, it is far too often interpreted by people who still have an old testament mindset, so the petty rules and the justifications for bigotry and hatred are still abundant in many people who claim to follow it’s teachings. I suppose that isn’t it’s fault, but it’s still used as a club far too often.

The Old Testament is the reason why I will not eat God’s creatures. The original and idyllic diet of man was vegetarian (Genesis 1;29). Messianic times will be the restoration of universal peace and harmony and no killing (vegetarianism)(Isaiah 11:9). I want to be clear that I am not a pious Judeo-Catholic. I’m a pariah, a reprobate, a glutton and the personification of cataclysmic intemperance.

Ah Kilbey, you hit a favorite topic of mine. Darn you, now I feel I must type something!

I agree with you and think it’s pretty obvious that the New Testament and Old Testament have very little to do with each other. It’s kind of a shame really that the two are so closely tied in “modern” times because I think it has turned a lot of people off of Jesus’ teachings because they usually don’t actually read the New Testament since they associate it with the Old Testament. He was basically “closing the book” on all the b.s. that was in the scriptures (essentially the Old Testament) at the time and trying to set the record straight for the common folks.

As Jesus said himself, he came for the Jews, and he came for the Jews to rail against what they were doing and believing at the time. And is not what they were doing and believing at the time based on the scriptures (essentially the Old Testament)? So what more proof does one need that the 2 “halves” of the Bible were not meant to co-exist?

Jesus did not promote organized religion in any way, shape, or form, suggesting in fact that the best way to pray to God was in the quiet of your “closet” (room) not in front of other people like a show-off. I think Jesus would be appalled by the existence and state of religions and churches. The mixture of money, misdeeds, and violence was exactly what he came to destroy. If you actually read the New Testament it’s pretty obvious he would rather people meet in a local park in pouring down rain if they want to discuss God, and use the “building fund” to help the poor rather than spending dollars putting up and maintaining some gilded shrine to keep their heads dry.

People really should read the New Testament and ditch their notions of what they think is in there based on the Old Testament and also what people have “told” them is in there. They would be amazed by the true message. People have so misconstrued Jesus and therefore given him a persona that really is not fair. It’s like how people today associate Jesus with televangelists and exaggerated religions in general, they kind of make Jesus seem “goofy” and undesirable and that’s a real shame, because again, when you actually read the New Testament, Jesus was extremely cool, and very much for normal, every day common mistake-riddled people.

I agree that our best bet is to try to extract the meaning of the messages Jesus was teaching as best as possible, and realize that even in the case of the New Testament there are human hands that put it down on paper and as one would expect added some silly bits toward their own ends, which become blatantly obvious when you read them in the context of the rest of it.

Also, I think Paul makes a lot of sense too as far as extending Jesus’ message out to the greater population (like most of us). He has a lot of credibility too since he is a historically documented figure and suffered greatly for his beliefs which gained him no earthly reward and nothing but misery, so why do it? And beside that, his story is pretty amazing if you think about it.

“Steve please, talk about music or your life cause when you talk on Religion your cheap philosophy is really pathetic. Your last blog is pathetic, really. Come on, you can do it better.”

gotta agree with this poster on this one…. I also do agree a lot of what the above poster John said…. The old testament was very rules driven…. Jesus broke us away from all this and opened things up for all people….No more sacrifices, sabbath rules, etc. that the Jewish people follow….it’s still important to know in context and explains alot in the new testament not to mention the nature of sin and it’s consequences….

This was no manna from heaven like what we have been getting recently from you(at least from my point of view)….Not sure what you are gaining by throwing the Bible/Christianity under the bus…. but it’s your blog and here I am commenting about it…And I haven’t even kicked into your slush fund yet so F me…….

I don’t think he’s throwing christianity under the bus exactly.
The question is more…do you believe in religion or not, heaven and hell, good and evil, right and wrong.

Well, do I? Depends on what day you catch me- yesterday I touched the magic key to get into Steve’s blog and at exactly the same time A CHURCH song came over the radio. Oh my god, there really is a church!! ha

You can pick and choose your religions and even how much you want to believe at what time of day :). I’m glad to be Episcopalian, I question my love for mine and other religions. What a concept, belief system, whatever. Disgusted by violence of any kind- can’t agree with ‘religion’ that supports it.

DaveM; my sentiments exactly. I was schooled by catholic nuns for 8 years, I got my indoctrination. Funny how it doesn’t take, despite their best efforts at mind control. “Ghosts crowd the young child’s fragile eggshell mind.”

The Bible literalists, and there are many here in the US Southland, amaze me. Beelzebubbas, I say. Just gimme some truth. The Walrus said “I don’t believe in Bible, I don’t believe in I’Ching…” I’d like to know who the real Jesus was….will the real Jesus please stand up?

p.s. In San Carlos Mexico again; amazing how many catholic shrines dot the mountains and landscape here…the locals adorn them with beads and plastic flowers. Statues of Mary too, only instead of being a Jew she looks Anglo-Saxon (?)
