a spirit must have crept in your room
bright with light, priestess of the afternoon
there to bid you comfort and to give good news
whereby you might prosper later on and even soon…
and she reads one of your manuscripts under a crimson moon
while her thoughts feed you simple nourishment just like a spoon
and her words and stories materialize right in front of you
like a library of endless knowledge that only you can choose
and you consume all that is beautiful as you enjoy the view
while she whispers “you ain’t no famine, and you’re not some fool”
only time can determine the true meanings of these interludes

after awhile Sam parked his car it was straight across from a lit up bar and thinking that a break was due he spent his money on a few. tipping back, the coldness sank in as he ordered up another gin. and as he took a further sip to calm his thirst, another gentleman walked in, “straight up please” (hip to hip) and introduced himself to Sam… hello, he said, my name is Glen and I saw you when you first walked in before the day was getting dark I too was thinking it just a lark but now as the sunset has come and passed I sit here on my own getting gassed. so I figured we could sit and talk awhile before the night parts the coming miles… Sam replied please have a seat; you must be tired standing on those weary feet (of yours), you say you’re traveling on? yes, after resting up but always just before the dawn. which direction are you headed in? into the sultry heat again through jungles growing over cornerstones then turning right (as walls fall in), they say go east, and east it is and then when everything’s straight again, I’ll rest once more with another gin to watch yet another day begin – say, would you like to go with me? we’ll end up back in Tripoli and with the sea’s approach of daylight rolling into ladies there will hold us tight long into the next starry night.

Sam decided to go with Glen as they drove over hills, along the beach, and through the landscapes still far out of reach, until they sat under further ceiling fans with the scent of orchids (now) blending in… hello, dear woman, are you here alone? (Sam thought this moment would soon go well) why, yes, I am and how bout you? No, I’m here with Glen and that makes us two… would you care to join us for a drink and then we can have something to eat. she sat there with the two drunk men, her long dark legs her toothy grin drinking rum (they stayed with gin) as night arrived (wallets getting thin); and then is when… a pause occurred before choice had been made… (turns out)Glen got up and as he waved goodbye, Sam was telling her of the day’s long drive.

? “Telegram Sam” (“he’s my main man”) by T. Rex, later covered by Bauhaus. Then there’s also “Lucifer Sam” by Pink Floyd (“that cat I can’t understand”).

        Don’t be scared. 🙂
