Yes, only 2 from me ‘cos I thought 2 was pushing it! … thanks for doing the marathon, I’ll always have questions.

I dont blame u for printing them out, I would’ve done the same thing…its hard to read a lot of text online.

“Travel By Thought” really surprised me as your answer (that would be manic!) but if the opportunity came up, I’d hope it’ll be a whole album… with vocals!

“(noise of hippy going thru record collection)” HA!

    Thanks SK, hope you’re resting

PS Have you read The Time Travellers Wife? I loved it and hated it!

Awfully kind of you to answer all these questions for us SK, even those posted by the annony-mouses. I must admit I was wondering if you might just give up on the whole idea when you saw just how many there were… thanks for persisting.

I’m impressed (but not at all surprised) to read you’re a fan of Mervyn Peake, i just read ‘Titus Groan’ for the first time and was utterly spellbound by it.

Best of luck with the rest of the questions and i hope you dont find mine too banal.

Printed out 42 pages! Well I tried! Someone sure loves doing things the hard way!

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way!

    Frank Sinatra

    Sorry, I couldn’t help myself ((‘{~_~}’))

That was a great effort Steve! I can’t wait for tomorrow’s installment.

I too was thinking of you a lot this weekend, wondering how you where plodding along.

I sure like using exclamation marks hey!

When you made the comment about Bratz dolls (I had a big smirk on my face), I got AI(1) to grab one of her Bratz dolls. She does have a nose, though I have to admit it is very small!

I am feeling better thanks, and trying to do my best to stop another big nasty growth from happening (unfortunately, I’m in the medium to high risk category of it returning). As chemo isn’t an effective treatment with this kind of thing, I have said yes to participating in a trial study (I’ll be a guinea pig) where I have a 50% chance of receiving a drug that otherwise costs 40 grand a year. Fingers crossed!

    “w. gibson, neal stephenson
    dick, ballard etc

Impressive list 🙂 You ever read “The Shockwave Rider” by John Brunner? Going backwards drawing a line of influences of these authors I’d draw it like this:
Stephenson -> Gibson -> Brunner (“Shockrave Rider” only) -> Dick (Ubik!!!)

But who’s Ballard? Have to check that out…

    Hey SK,

I saw Finn’s question about Gold Afternoon Fix, and I was wondering about that myself. I always thought that R.E.M.’s Automatic for the People turned out fantastically under John Paul Jones. I just get the feeling that it’s such a “dark” album. (Probably because a lot of it feels like it’s about death)

Oh well… Regardless of how things turned out, I still think that Gold Afternoon Fix is a pretty damn good album! (My fave songs: Pharoah, Metropolis, Russian Autumn Heart, Essence, Disappointment & Grind *phew*)

(Especially Grind! I was so impressed when you played that at Manchester Lane in Melb earlier this year!)

Strangely enough, I’m pretty sure that Gold Afternoon Fix was the album that got me into The Church, when I borrowed it from the local library (multiple times!).

    heres my Q for you…
how come you started to play the bass?
    i really dig your basslines..
    whats your influences?
my opinion is that when you get down into the music of the church the bass is truly the hidden gem, it took me a couple of years to realize that beeing a guitarist myself =)!

    take care man!

Just wanted to toss up a giant thumbs up on the Neal Stephenson mention. I always thought “Half-Cocked” Jack Shaftoe could’ve been a Kilbey character, sailing the sea of a Church verse.

Rec: The Vintner’s Luck by Elizabeth Knox. Prose is a bit effulgent in spots, but there’s more than a touch of Angela Carter in her angel Xas, and there’s a Lucifer appearance to die for.
