So the song (THE song), don’t mean to sound partial or anything, sounded good live with strings. I heard a Perth snippet from Chris. What a surprise. I imagined you would croon the song but you sang it (the lines I heard) quite passionately. Also, we have something in common. We’ve both been to Darwin airport. Good time of year to visit Darwin imo. I wonder if you saw environs? Beautiful country around that city, which doesn’t feel like a city! More of a seaside town.

Here’s how the gig was for me.
I was edgy in the lead up, knowing you’d not been here before, and wondering whether there are enough here that remember you.
But, as it turned out, there were plenty.
    And the venue was perfect.
And though the band’s make up was an unconventional, it seemed just made for your music.
And Adrian H’s set list was really clever.
Apart from the ‘must-plays’, I would not have laid odds on many of the songs.
Several were from the most raw of your recent output.
Reinventions of some songs that until played on this tour had really only existed as spontaneous experiments on your laptop.
Which is not to denigrate those songs at all – but seeing and hearing them absolutely fresh, in the hands of quality musicians, was a revelation.
And the effect they had on an audience that was mainly there for the ‘must plays’ was fantastic.
(Who’d have thought that ‘the ancient world’ would get one of the biggest receptions?)

Make sure you don’t leave it another whole career before you come back again.

you have that far away Dietrich look – and though she could always keep up with the boys, she never had a beard nor you black hose/form fit tuxedo leotard/hat/tap cane – but Marlene’s stare was the same as yours. It’s a good one. On a different subject: I heard a producer friend relating re [Bon Jovi] and that it is no longer re the records sold (for him) but the performance – ahh technology and its pitfalls for us all. You’re lucky… you remain with more talent and for both.

    I once had a dream,
    too amazing to be believed,
    Steve Kilbey came to darwin,
    Never before had he been.

    He played with the Hoffmenn,
    and the Angels on strings,
    the music so magical,
    You gave butterflies their wings.

    We left there that night,
    floating and in awe,
    imagine our euphoria,
when you walked through our door.

    Never before had our suburbs,
    heard your music in flight,
    our pashio and hearts expanded,
under the milky way that night.

    Too soon the music stopped,
    and the goodbyes a formality,
our heads still full of your music,
our wildest dream now a reality….

Hello again sk. Just to tell you I waited for Futura to open again yesterday afternoon (post lunch) and was happy to buy one of the framed triptychs. I heard you cut up some old paintings to make them into smaller ones. I’m not sure what to think of that, was slightly shocked at first to hear, but they do look good. The one I chose had a dark piece, a neutral piece and a pastel piece, so very well balanced! Thanks for making them available. Sorry to hear Futura is closing down very soon. Anyway, belated welcome back to Sydney. Can feel strange coming back after being in different parts. Imagine seeing you on the streets of Bondi and while the sun shone! πŸ™‚
